The regional office of the Commission on Elections (Comelec) for the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) will finally transfer to Cotabato City from Zamboanga City.
The transfer of the Comelec ARMM office has been sought by Mayor Celso Lobregat, who said there was no reason for it to be here because the city was never part of the six-province region.
"The City of Zamboanga is not part of ARMM, it is for the welfare and security of this city that the said office should be outside of Zamboanga City, especially during the forthcoming ARMM elections in August 2008," Lobregat said in his June 17 letter of request to the poll body.
Comelec Chairman Jose Melo, who was in the city the other day for the first Regional Coordinating Command Conference, said the Comelec has approved Lobregat's request and will be moving out its ARMM regional office to Cotabato City as soon as possible.
